Echoes - Phase 1

Layout Design/Illustration/2D Animation/3D Modeling
3D Animation/Augmented Reality

Learning in historical sites can be exhilarating when one first experiences a tour. However, viewer engagement can dwindle after multiple times. That is where interactivity can add another layer of intrigue and create a new experience.

Echoes is an experience that allows users to view a historical site utilizing augmented reality. This phase of Echoes incorporates history and facts using animation and illustration to improve retention and further educate first-time visitors and regulars.

The first step was understanding the history in the capitol and creating sketches and storyboards to find a solution to the animations. The next step was learning how to use Unity and integrating my work into it.

Using a Matterport 3D Scanner, I created a digital twin of the interior of the Louisiana State Capitol. This allowed me to import the building into Unity and start adding the elements. The tricky part was learning how to structure code in C# and using the Vuforia SDK to make the project function properly when using the app.

This is the version of the experience I was able to make for my senior exhibition. Although it is rough around the edges, I am still developing this project because I believe that it can be beneficial for the next generation. Part of Phase 2 is below.
